The next time the sun is shining while dogwood seeds float through the air, close one eye, stretch out your arm to eclipse the sun with the tip of your thumb and focus your eyes on the sky that surrounds it. Above you, for miles, drifts a giant dome of brilliant motes that dance around your shadowed hand.

That experience is the original inspiration for this unique painting which captures an ephemeral landscape that few people even realize is there.

This painting is based on a blurry night-time photo taken as a reference for the finished work.

Before the sidewalk boulevard became a riot of flowering nightshades planted by my partner, it was a spectacular pride of dandelions which I had been (un)cultivating for years.

Regrettably, the day after the reference photo had been shot, the city decided that my inspiration was an eye-sore and mowed them down. (Unless, of course, the neighbours were responsible and not the city.) Regardless, I am glad I got the photo in time.
