First of all, I have to say that this painting is one of my favourites. It was painted the day after I spent a wonderful August afternoon floating in the warm, soupy green waters south of Port Franks.

I wanted to capture the intense colours of the water and the warmth of the sunlight, and the unique haze that floats up along the horizon that close to “the valley” to strengthen and imprint the memory.

The particular day that inspired this painting remains one of my most vividly joyful moments.
